A last second effort from deep by the Gyrenes tied the game at 73, forcing overtime. Two successful free throws from Orri Hilmarsson in the final 10 seconds gifted the Warriors a three-point lead. The back-and-forth continued as the Warriors retook the lead and eventually the Gyrenes leveled the game at 67 with just over a minute and a half to go. ![]() Webber regained the lead and held it over the next six minutes, before an and-one from Ave Maria tied the game once again, this time at 54. The Gyrenes did not back down, however, as they cut the lead to just one on multiple occasions before tying things up at 42. The lead changed a few times over the next couple of minutes but it was Webber that held a 30-26 lead at the break.Ī strong start to the second half from the Warriors saw them increase their lead to as many as eight points. The Warriors eventually cut the deficit to just one at 22-21 before a layup by Davis earned them their first lead of the game. However, Ave Maria responded by going on a 7-0 run to take a 16-9 lead. The Gyrenes had the slight edge early on but a three-pointer courtesy of Eddie Davis leveled the game at nine apiece just over seven minutes into the game. Ave Maria struggled at the line, shooting 56.7 percent on 30 attempts while the Warriors shot 84 percent from the charity stripe, which now ties them with Warner Pacific University for the highest team free throw percentage in the NAIA at 80.9 percent. However, Webber forced the Gyrenes into 19 total turnovers and were able to convert those into 23 points off turnovers. After a last-second equalizer from the Gyrenes in regulation, it took two overtimes but the Warriors came out on top, 92-86.Īve Maria (11-9 overall, 4-6 SUN) held the advantage down low, outscoring the Warriors (14-6, 8-2) 52-34 on points in the paint.
